    * I DON’T GET this at ALL:(*

    • ANSWER:
      Ok, this requires several steps. He needs 6 boards, so 6 times .50 = .00
      He needs 4 brackets, so 4 times 70 cents = .80
      He needs 12 screws, so 12 times 25 cents = .00
      + _____
      .80
      Dennis sold 11 humidors for .99 EACH. So it’s 11 times .99 = 9.89
      .80 – 9.89 = 7.09.

  10. QUESTION:
    Math Problem please! Homework! free 10 pts.?
    ROPES #2 The Class Picnic(Adv. Math)
    Last year, Mrs. Reynolds’ class invited the families of her students to come and join in the fun during their annual picnic at Lake Konocktee. Mrs. Reynolds needed to get a white ticket for each adult, a green ticket for each boy, and a yellow ticket for each girl. The 60 adults mostly sat in the shade watching the kids play. The boys, who made up one third of the total people there, generally played in the lake. The girls only made up one sixth of the total number of people at the picnic; most of them played volleyball. How many yellow tickets did Mrs. Reynolds need to get?

    There’s the problem, I need to know how you figured out your answer and it worked out a bit.. just explain how you got to your answer.
    No, 60 is the number of ADULTS but there are more than 60 since the boys and girls also make up the TOTAL, not just the adults.

    • ANSWER:
      that’s so easy, she needs 20 yellow tickets because she already has 60 adults, and has 1/2 worth of boys and girls together, meaning that 60 is half, so one sixth would be the 20 tickets, and she would also need 40 green tickets, just in case you wanted to know

    8. Which is better home-run rate? Hitting 2 home runs in 6 times at bat or 5 in 12?

    THANK YOU :)

    • ANSWER:
      this is so easy dude:

      answer 1: first find out how much one dozen costs
      18/12= 1.5 so .5

      a)1.5 x 4 =
      b)1.5 x 50 =
      c)27/1.5 = 18 dozen
      d)63/1.5 = 42 doxen

      3) 618 + 378 + 204 = 1200
      so

      618/1200 = 0.515 —– 0.515 x 20 = 10.3
      378/1200 = 0,315 —– 0.315 x 20 = 6.3
      204/1200 = 0.17 ——– 0.17 x 20 = 3.4

      so
      RMS = 10.3 students
      WMS = 6.3 student
      BMS = 3.4 students

      listen i think there is a mistake in your question , maybe it supposed to be 200 instead of 20 .. so just multiply each answer by 10…..
      if your sure of the question is right , just go to the closest whole number.

      5)
      a) 1/4 x 26 = 6.5 miles
      b) 5 x 4 = 20 miles

      6) 198/14 = 14.14
      259/36 = 7.19
      so is better to buy 36 ounce for .59

      7) 10/15= 0.667
      8/10= 0.8
      so the better average is 8 out of 10

      8) 2/6 = 0.33
      5/12 = 0.4167
      so the better homerun rate is 5 in 12

  16. QUESTION:
    Answer Math Questions for Free…Good or Bad?
    Have you ever been criticised for answering math questions on-line? I try to ignore people who look for ways to put me down. I don’t understand what the big deal is anyway. They say that answering math questions for free is doing someone else’s homework and/or classwork. What is your view? Is there anything wrong with answering math questions on-line? What’s the big crime anyway?

    • ANSWER:
      I look at the tone of the question and the length. If the asker sound’s as if they have tried to make an effort to understand it themselves and are stuck, I have no compunctions in helping. If I see a string of questions (and often you get the whole question or homework paper copy/pasted, including marks allowed per question), I just ignore it. I do not feel we should do kids’ homework for them, but helping genuine cases is okay in my book. As to what constitutes genuine, that is a judgement call.

      Case in point – http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgQi37xZHmcekc3gJOhhYVXExQt.;_ylv=3?qid=20091201074856AAyqLiU just popped after immediately after this question, without even proofing to see the whole of the last question had been submitted or not. That one will not get an answer from me.

  19. QUESTION:
    Is there a saxon algebra 2 answer key online for free?
    My son has to have his math homework checked at home since he missed school. Anyone have any websites that solve problems online for free?
    DIngo I absolutely agree with you as far as cheating on math. My son only needed to check his answers for a problem set as only the odd number answerd are provided he needed to check the even numbers. We didn’t find anything so he just cross checked it with a friend. Thanks for everyone’s help.

    • ANSWER:
      EDIT: my answer below is based on the assumption that you are the parent/teacher, not the student trying to cheat. If you *are* the student, you will only be hurting yourself when it comes time to do the next level. Math is like a multi-story building – each level builds on the previous level and if you are shaky in one level, the levels above it will not stand.

      Algebra II has probably 20 tests – you want the answers to ALL of them?

      You can probably find a used copy of the answer key on Amazon or eBay or a new one at Rainbow Resource or even Saxon’s (Harcourt’s) website. Make sure you get the edition that matches your book (I think they’re up to the third edition now).

      BTW – they also have a solutions manual that gives step-by-step solutions to all the problems in the book (and I believe on the tests). You have to purchase the solutions manual separate from the rest of the program. It is available at a discount from Rainbow Resource (see link below) as well as other places.

      Rainbow Resource: http://www.rainbowresource.com/prodlist….

      I got this from “Homeschoolmom”on this website.

  22. QUESTION:
    How to improve my math grades?
    Okay, I’ve been studying daily and doing my homework. My math teacher showed me my average and it’s 78. I want to increase my grade to at least 80 percent. We have a term exam coming up and I need to know what I can do to get ready for this term exam. I’d apperciate if you guys get me a very detailed description of a studying technique or anything. Feel free to answer, Thank you.

    • ANSWER:
      Your question indicates you do your homework and you have a good relationship with your teacher.

      The key is to be sure you understand the material as you go along the learning curve since math continues to build more breadth and with year after year. When you do your homework, a) you are probably assigned some problems that have answers in the back of the text which let you confirm or correct the way you do those problems. b) Each day the teacher goes over some of the homework in class or via marked up homework papers. Be sure you understand where you went wrong to the point where you can do similar problems the next night or whenever they arise in the future.

      There is a c) which is to form a working relationship with your colleagues so when you are doing the homework and are unsure of the right method; you call them or get together with them to help each other to enhance understanding and engrave the method in your mind. This relationship is only for the learning portion; not the working portion (no copying of homework problems) and not for the testing portion (no help from each other during classroom or take home tests). Two key points about your team approach: a) pick out students who are doing a little better than you are, and b) be sure you can contribute something to their learning. It has to be a two-way street (win-win proposition) to accomplish the desired goals.

      Good luck!

  23. QUESTION:
    Math Homework Help? 8th Grade?
    Hi! I finished my math homework all except for this one question. =/ I’ve been stuck on it for awhile The chapter is on substitution and elimination. Here’s the problem:

    In basketball, a free throw is 1 point and a field goal is either 2 or 3 points. Suppose a professional basketball player scored a total 1928 points in one season. The total number of 2-point field goals and 3-point field goals was 701, and he made 475 of the 557 free throws he attempted. Find the number of 2-point field goals and 3-point field goals the player made this season.

    Can you show me how to do it step-by-step? Thanks in advance! =)

    There is an answer key in the back of my book that says its 640 2-point field goals and 61 3-point field goals but i don’t know how they got that answer. =(

    • ANSWER:
      Let x be the number of 2-point field goals
      Let y be the number of 3-point field goals

      2x + 3y = 1928 – 475 = 1453
      x + y = 701

      2x + 3y = 1453
      y = 701 – x

      2x + 3(701 – x) = 1453
      2x + 2103 – 3x = 1453
      -x = -650
      x = 650
      y = 51

  24. QUESTION:
    Math homework help..due monday.?
    I have to answer this problem for homework monday, can someone please help? idk where to even start…

    You order 2 pizzas for dinner 4 times every month. The pizza shop offers the following deals for the monts of May and June: Revieve 10% off the bill on each order or recieve 1 free pizza after buying 6 pizzas. If each pizza costs .50, which deal is better?

    I have to explain on how i got the answer too, just to let you know..

    • ANSWER:
      2 pizzas X 4 times ( 8 pizzas) @ 6.50 = .00
      10 percent off .20 so you spend 52.00- 5.20 = .80 permonth

      2 pizzas X 3 times (6 pizzas) = .00 – get one free pay for the 8th pizza .50 .00 plus 6.50 = .50

      the free pizza deal is the best. You save .30

  26. QUESTION:
    Please answer if you can for math homework help thanks?
    1. In the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, the U.S. men’s basketball team, consisting of NBA superstars, was defeated by the Puerto Rican team 92-73. The points came from three types of plays: 2-point shots, 3-point shots, and 1-point free throws. There were six more 2-point shots made than there were 1-point free throws. The number of successful 2-point shots was two more than four times the number of successful 3-point shots. How many 2-point and 3-point shots, and 1-point free throws were made in that Olympic competition?

    3-point shots:
    2-points shots:
    1-point free throws:

    2. The circle given by the equation x^2+y^2+ax+by+c=0 passes through the points(0,6) (5,1) (4,3) and . Find a, b , and c .

    • ANSWER:
      (1)
      Let a = number of 1-point showts made,
      b = number of 2-point showts made,
      c = number of 3-point showts made.

      b = a + 6                         [1]
      b = 4c + 2                       [2]
      a + 2b + 3c = 92 + 73      [3]

      Combine [1] and [2]:
      a + 6 = 4c + 2
      a = 4c – 4                        [4]

      Substitute [2] and [4] into [3]:
      (4c – 4) + 2(4c + 2) + 3c = 92 + 73
      15c = 165
      c = 11

      [4]:
      a = 4(11) – 4 = 40

      [2]:
      b = 4(11) + 2 = 46

      There were 40 foul shots, 46 2-pointers, and 11 3-pointers made in the game.
      Note: The USA team had NBA stars and no excuses, but nary a superstar in the pack.

      (2)
      x² + y² + ax + by + c = 0

      Substitute the three points (0, 6), (5, 1), (4, 3).

      (0)² + (6)² + a(0) + b(6) + c = 0
      6b + c + 36 = 0                            [1]

      (5)² + (1)² + a(5) + b(1) + c = 0
      5a + b + c + 26 = 0                       [2]

      (4)² + (3)² + a(4) + b(3) + c = 0
      4a + 3b + c + 25 = 0                     [3]

      There you have again a system of three equations and three unknowns. I did the first. I will leave this one to you.

  31. QUESTION:
    Answering Math Questions On-line?
    Have you ever been criticised for answering math questions on-line? I try to ignore people who look for ways to put me down. I don’t understand what the big deal is anyway. They say that answering math questions for free is doing someone else’s homework and/or classwork. What is your view? Is there anything wrong with answering math questions on-line? What’s the big crime anyway?

    • ANSWER:
      No, there’s nothing wrong with answering questions.
      The problem comes when people use this service to do their homework.
      At test time, it will become apparent that they don’t know the material, haven’t worked out the problems, and aren’t learning for themselves.
      But that’s their problem, not your problem.
      We all assume that people are using this service to improve themselves and not to cheat or slide through a class.
      There are steps you can take if you think people are using it to cheat.
      I try to help people see how to get there although I may not solve the problem completely.
      If they present a step-by-step solution (which means they have actually worked through it), I get much more in depth in the solution and solving the problem.
      If they provide 40 problems and just want answers, I usually ignore it.
      Good luck and don’t worry about what others are thinking.

    wel thanks for the input i did it already and i need someone to help me with it. my dad is at work and mom is at work too all i asked for was some simple help no offense i already answered the questions i just wanted to make sure it was correct
    thank you Pamela you where such a great help not like that other guy thanks alot=]

    • ANSWER:
      Jason let’s look at #1. There is a maximum parking fee. The first hour is free. After that it is .50 per 1/2 hour OR part of a 1/2 hour. The car arrives @ 9:06 & leaves @ 12:45.
      Let’s subtract: We know 12-9=3 hours, 45minutes – 06 minutes=39 minutes giving us a total of 3 hours & 39 minutes. BUT the first hour is free, so subtract 1 hour from 3 hours, leaving you with 2 hours & 39 minutes. There are 2 half hours per hour, so 2×2=4, 1.50×4=6,still leaving you with 39 minutes or 2 1/2 hours =3. += total cost

    I NEED HELP WITH MY MATH HOMEWORK!?
    In my math class, we have to do problems of the week. i need help because its due tomorrow and i dont get it!

    It costs to become a new member of a book club. There is a charge per book ordered and tax is 7% on the books. Shipping and handling is free for all members. How many books were purchased by a new member if the total bill comes to .20?

    If you know what the answer is can you explain in full detail how you got it? and why your answer makes sense? THANKYOU!!!!!
    GiniXD- THANKYOU SO MUCH! YOU SAVED MY LIFE<3 haha, but really thankyouu(:

    • ANSWER:
      First substract the membership fee from the total bill: .20 – .00 = .20

      A book is but comes with a 7% tax that needs to be added up:
      = 100%
      $… = 107%
      / 100 x 107 = .70
      Every book costs .70 (including the tax)

      Now you divide the bill price by the bookprice (including the tax):
      .20 / .70 = 6

      The answer is 6 books.

      Tadah!
      Hope this helped (:

  40. QUESTION:
    math homework hELP!!!!!!!!!!!?
    1. A skateboarder enters a free-style competition. Her total points (P) is a function of the number of drop in moves (D) she makes. For each drop in move she earns 4 points and she has already earned 36 points from her rail slide moves.

    a. Write an equation to model this relationship

    Use your equation to answer the next two questions
    b.) What is her total points if she makes 11 drop in moves?

    c.) How many drop in moves does she need to make in order to have 60 points?

    • ANSWER:
      Well, you start with what you know.

      P=the 36 points plus however many drop in moves times 4 points each.

      So:

      Drop in moves times 4 points each = 4D

      36 predetermined points. This is your constant.

      P = 36 + 4D

      For B:

      She makes 11 Drop in moves. Well, since D represents the number of drop in moves she makes, then D=11. Plug that into your equation.

      P=36 + 4(11)
      P=36+44
      P=80

      For C:

      Now they give you her total points (P), but don’t give you the number of drop in moves.

      So plug what you know into your equation:

      P=36+4D
      60=36+4D

      Subtract 36 from both sides.

      24=4D

      Divide both sides by 4.

      D= 6.

      Since D is the number of drop ins, she needs to make 6 drop in moves to score 60 points.

      Hope this helps.

    8th Grade Math Homework?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

    Car Rental

    Sam needs to rent a car for his upcoming trip. Cheap Wheels charges .25 per day plus $ .14 a mile. Easy Rider charges $ 18.25 a day plus $.22 a mile. Sam plans to do a lot of driving on his 3-day trip. Which company should Sam go with?

    Explain your choice.
    Does the difference in cost go up or down as mileage increases? Support your answer.

    Check My ANSWER

    Cheap wheels charges more per day than Easy Rider. So for 3 days, it is going to cost more.
    Easy rider charges [FAQ-QUESTION].08 more per mile than Cheap Wheels. This means to cover the cost differential of on rent, Sam will have to drive 6/0.08 = 75 miles.
    If he is driving 75 miles, then there is no cost difference. If driving less than 75 miles, it is better to go with Easy Rider. If more than 75 miles, Cheap Wheels will be better.

    Let us take three cases to prove this –

    1) 60 miles
    Cheap Wheels – 20.25 * 3 + 0.14 * 60 = 69.15
    Easy Rider – 18.25 * 3 + 0.22 * 60 = 67.95

    2) 75 miles
    Cheap Wheels – 20.25 * 3 + 0.14 * 75 = 71.25
    Easy Rider – 18.25 * 3 + 0.22 * 75 = 71.25

    3) 90 miles
    Cheap Wheels – 20.25 * 3 + 0.14 * 90 = 73.35
    Easy Rider – 18.25 * 3 + 0.22 * 90 = 74.55

    Was this correct? if not, please feel free to make any changes.

    • ANSWER:
      Cheap Wheels: 20.25(3) + 0.14m = 60.75 + 0.14m
      Easy Rider: 18.25(3) + 0.22m = 54.75 + 0.22m

      60.75 + 0.14m > 54.75 + 0.22m
      6 > 0.08m
      75 > m

      if m < 75 easy rider would be better. What you were doing is not a proof, it was only a verification.

    In need of math genius!! Geometry homework help, 20 points to best answer!?
    So I am stuck on these questions.. unfortunately math isn’t my forte. If you could help me out I would really appreciate it.. feel free to show me how to as well.
    10 points for best answer!

    Write the equation of the line with a slope of -1/3 and passing through the point (6, -4).

    Write the equation of the line passing through the points (0, -4) and (-2, 2)
    y = 3x – 4
    y = -3x + 2
    y = -3x – 4

    Write the equation of the line with an undefined slope, passing through the point (2, 5).
    x = 2
    x = 5
    y = 2
    y = 5
    none of the above

    What is the first step in the process of writing the equation of the line parallel to the line y = -4x + 3 and containing the point (1, -2)?
    Identify the slope from slope-intercept form
    plug values into the point-slope formula and write the equation in slope-intercept form
    make up another point on the new line and use it to find the slope
    none of the above

    The equation of a line is y=2/7x-5
    What will the slope be for a line that is perpendicular to this line?

    Write the equation of the line that is perpendicular to the line y = -2x – 8 and contains the point (4, 4).

    • ANSWER:
      If you have 2 points, and a slope. Use the point-slope formula to find the equation of a line.

      point-slope formula: (y2 – y1) = m(x2 – x1)

      Hope that helps.

    Math Differentiation Homework?
    I have a math problem and I am not sure what to do. Please help me learn how to do it and not just give me the answer! I would really like to learn how to do it!

    To estimate the height of a building, a stone is dropped from the top of the building into a pool of water at ground level. How high is the building if the splash is seen 6.1 seconds after the stone is dropped?Use the position function for free-falling objects.
    s(t) = –4.9t2 + v(o)t + s(o)

    • ANSWER:
      This is not differentiation.

      s = ut + (1/2)at²
      u = 0m/s —- free fall means that the initial velocity is 0
      a ≈ 9.8m/s²
      t = 6.1

      s ≈ (1.2)×9.8×6.1²
      ≈ 182.3m

      Edit: The formula in your book is just a variation of this
      s(t) = –4.9t² + v(0)t + s(0)
      t = 6.1
      s(t) = 0
      v(0) = 0
      s(0) = ?

      s(0) = 4.9×6.1² ≈ 182.3m

    Why doesn’t Yahoo Answers delete profiles of known loan scammers???

    http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=AsXdo3BJFhjXr8fGyadFXVutxQt.;_ylv=3?show=yqwq7iovaa

    Here’s just ONE of the old profiles back in business that I thought had been deleted… They have a whopping 52 points… Scammers are getting a free pass on Answers… The same names come up over and over… Sir Charles Luggard, Jerry Luckson, Anita Brown, Nicole Kidman, Bill Richards, Shelia Wood, Victoria Dingley, Mark Wilton, Donald George, Frank Petti, etc… There’s a new one “Sham Loan Company Inc.”… I have to admit that one is even funnier than Clarkson Loan Scheme!

    I’m reaching my limit on the “Report It” button on a daily basis… unfortunately, the scammers can pay 10 guys to sit around searching for questions with “loan” in the title… Some poor kid trying to figure out interest on his math homework gets the same canned reply as the person about to lose their house… These people are SCUM… When is Yahoo going to DO something about it???

    Math question homework help?
    A telephone company charges a month and gives the customer 200 free call minutes. After the 200 min, the company charges [FAQ-QUESTION].03 a minute

    For part A it asks) Write the function using function notation

    In the back of the textbook it gives this answer,
    f(x)= (30, if x is less than or equal to 200; 0.03 + 24, if x>200) I get the first half of the answer, why is the second half 0.03 +24?

    • ANSWER:
      f(x) = 30 (for 0 <= x <= 200)

      Then since the 3c charge only kicks in for minutes over 200,
      we have:

      f(x) = 30 + 0.03 * (x - 200) (for 200 < x)

      Which simplifies to:

      30 + 0.03 * x - .03 * 200 =
      30 + 0.03 x - 6 =
      24 + 0.03 x

      Because 30 – (200x.03) = 24, and 24 + (200x.3) = 30, which is the amount of the bill.

  49. QUESTION:
    Why would a math question vanish without a trace?
    Last night I answered a question in Mathematics about how to determine the forces acting on an angled cable and a pole supporting a hanging sign. Sounds pretty innocuous, right? And instead of just cranking out the numbers, I took the time to explain what I was doing. At the end I said “feel free to email if you don’t understand what I did,” or something to that effect. A few hours later, the entire question just up and vanished with no explanation. Being proud of my answer, and hopeful for another “best,” I was a bit stunned and disappointed.

    Could this have been an ungrateful brat literally stealing a homework answer? Can a question be deleted by the asker after answers to it have been posted? Why would he/she do that, anyway?

    Or would my suggestion to email for further help have been deemed a violation of the Community Guideline against soliciting minors?

    I know I should just forget it and move on, but this is the 2nd time this has happened, and I’d like to know why.
    Nice pun, bigwig. :-P

    • ANSWER:
      Hello, Professor!

      Your answer should not have resulted in the deletion of the question. I’ve seen Y!A delete answers without deleting the question and if your answer was deleted, you would have received a violation notice from Y!A.

      If the Asker is engaging in chat (within the question itself) or if he/she added objectionable comments to the question, then the entire question (and all answers) could be deleted.

      It is also possible the Asker’s account was suspended for previous violations and *all* his/her questions were deleted. I myself have given long, careful answers to questions only to see them deleted because the Asker’s account was deleted.

      One suggestion: Save your answers for future reference on your hard drive. That way, if a similar question surfaces, you can use it without rebuilding the house. :-)

      Best wishes,
      Scalia

    Quick akgebra problem that my friends and I are stuck on… help?
    I am doing this online math review for my college chem class and none of us can get this problem! I don’t know if we are drawing a blank or what… but here it is:

    Rearrange the equation (x-1)(x-1)(x-1)=y to solve for x

    Express x in terms of y.

    When answering, please explain the steps you took to get an answer. I am not trying to get free answers for homework… I am simply trying to learn.

    Please and thank you.

    • ANSWER:
      Notice there are 3 x’s being multiplied. Also, 3 (-1)’s being multiplied (x)(x)(x)= x to the 3rd power (x^3). (-1)(-1)(-1)=(-1^30 = (-1). So Y=(x^3)(-1)
